Selecting Cabinets

On the surface, selecting cabinets seems an easy task. You choose the wood finish or the color you like, and the style of the hardware. You make sure the drawers open easily and the cabinet doors shut tight. The problem is, in a showroom, everything looks good. Even poor quality cabinets made with shoddy materials function well. It's not until a few years later that you start seeing the delamination, sagging cabinet doors, and loose hardware. This is why recognizing cabinet quality takes a real craftsman's eye.

"To judge cabinet quality, you need to look beyond the 'face' and examine closely the materials and fit of the components. We look for cabinets that can take everyday use for decades, not just five or ten years."
Scott Gregor, President

Taking the Guesswork out of Selecting Cabinetry

At Master Plan, we will only show you quality. Life is too long for shoddy cabinetry. We only represent cabinet lines we'd want in our homes. Consequently, we work with some of the best cabinet companies in the world—including some of the best warranties. Does it cost more? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely. In fact, we'll turn down a job rather than install inferior product. You don't need the grief and neither do we.

Custom versus factory

One thing you need to know is that the word "custom" before cabinetry doesn't necessarily mean quality. Custom cabinetry is simply custom-made by a cabinet shop for a specific project. Quality is quality, whether it's made by a custom shop or a factory. We find that cabinet factories that have the equipment, the processes and the volume-buying power produce many of the best quality and fairest priced cabinets.
