The Need to Go Contemporary

This pre-1959 ranch-style home had undergone extensive remodeling in the early 1990s, including a substantial family room addition. Soon after the current owners moved in, they noticed numerous inefficiencies and inadequacies.

• A small galley kitchen with low ceilings and no natural light
• A hallway cutting through the kitchen that disturbed cooking
• Dining room access cut off from the kitchen
• Poorly designed separation between kitchen and family room

The family also wanted a more contemporary look for the family room, complete with an integrated entertainment center. The existing knotty pine walls and false-beam ceiling had to go.
